Ice Swimming --- A New Trend in Swimming
Swimming has always been a good from of exercise, a well-loved sport, and an enjoyed outing activity. There are people who do extreme water games or exhibitionist acts or dangerous swimming moves --- done in open sea or pool or lakes, but there are also those who for certain reasons do a certain kind of dipping into cold or rather iced-cold water --- ice swimming. Imagine yourself holding a cube of ice on both hands, cold isn’t it? Now, imagine yourself swimming in an ice-filled water --- that’s what ice swimming is about. You get to swim in very cold water --- with frozen ice, or cutting a hole in the ice to let you bathe in the iced water.
So, why do people indulge in ice swimming? It’s actually getting famous in many cold countries of the world --- Scandinavia, China, Russia, North America, and other European countries, a lot of ice swimming advocates are actually defending this kind of swimming. Why? It’s because of the health benefits that one gets when dipped into this iced water. Although, one has to know that there are also risks involved. But why do people still go and enjoy ice swimming? Actually, the concept of ice swimming started the same as that of the sauna. Ice swimming makes one feel fresh and allows good circulation of body fluids. Also, because one forces to face the cold water, it allows the body to resist and overcome diseases and illnesses related to the cold. It is however, not advisable to dive into the iced cold water, this is very hazardous, and may result to very serious injuries and damages.
Because of the coldness of the water, it is very common that there are saunas installed or placed near the ice swimming area. Doing a cycle between the iced water and the sauna is good for the body; however, one has to pause first before moving from sauna to cold water because of the changes of blood circulation.
Ice swimming is truly interesting and exciting, but one has to take precautions before indulging in this kind of swimming. Make sure that you consult with your doctor first --- whether your heart, lungs, and body can take such extreme conditions --- or else, it will surely be a harmful and dangerous experience for you.
Swimming has truly evolved, and still people continue to experiment and try new swimming activities to stimulate one’s body, mind, strength, and endurance. So, whether you’re doing ice swimming or pool laps swimming or open sea swimming, just remember to always take care of your body, it’s better to be ready, careful, and safe, rather than be sorry at the end.
